What We Believe

We are a group of believers who love the Lord and seek only to do His will. We have no creed, but Christ.

We find the Bible to be sufficient, since it is literally God-breathed.

We seek to simply be the church that we find in the New Testament.

We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians, only.

Simple, New Testament Christianity

The Newburgh church of Christ is an independent congregation of Christians trying to follow Jesus Christ according to the New Testament.  We have no church authority beyond the Bible. Our leaders are chosen from the congregation according to the qualifications found in Scripture.  We believe that all Christians are members of the one body of Christ and that we can be united spiritually if we return to biblical teachings. Our goal is to be Christians only while recognizing that we are not the only Christians.  Our faith and worship are drawn from our understanding of the New Testament.  We meet together on Sundays to remember Jesus in the Lord's Supper, pray, sing, and hear a message from the Bible.  Our commitment to two practices of the first century church distinguishes us from some groups of believers today:  a cappella singing in worship and adult immersion in water for the forgiveness of sins as a believer's response to the gracious work of God.

We consider ourselves a part of a larger fellowship of New Testament congregations growing out of the Restoration Movement in the US in the 1800's.  Like others in this movement we seek to "Speak where the Bible speaks; remain silent where the Bible is silent," and practice "In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; and in all things, charity."

The Newburgh church of Christ first met as a congregation in the early 1990s at Camp Brosend in Newburgh then later purchased and renovated a former restaurant at the current location -  5111 S. Plaza Dr. in Newburgh (two blocks east of SR261 off Robin Hill Rd.).

While we look to the past in the New Testament for our guidance we work now to help people and look forward to when Jesus comes again. The congregation is dedicated to foreign mission work having sponsored missionaries all over the world.  Since 2004 the Newburgh church of Christ has been involved in mission work in Vicente Guerrero on the Baja Peninsula of Mexico. Through an annual free-will offering we have provided the salary for brother Gerardo Figuerora and his wife Betty as the ministry family to the church in Mexico.  We have also partnered with believers from all over the US to conduct medical clinics, hand out food packages, teach  adult and children's bible classes, and help with building projects.

We maintain an interactive website at www.newburghchurch.org where one can watch our services streamed live at 10:30am on Sundays or archived on line.   Our Minister since 2005 is Paul DeHart and he can be reached for further information at 812.858.0181 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
